Media Music Magazine Evaluation1

For my AS media studies coursework I have made a music magazine, my magazine is aimed at boys and girls in there late teens and a bit older, the genre I have used in my music magazine is R&B/Rap.

My music magazine challenges form and convention of real magazines because on the front cover, contents page and double page spread are all based on the same boy band. This is unusual because most magazines have lots of pictures of all different bands.

My media music magazine represents particular social groups because I have made my magazine quite simple and expensive I have also made the front cover texture glossy instead of grainy or matt, this would suggest that my magazine is more for a wealthy person and someone that can afford the luxury of being able to buy music magazine, they would also have to have a strong interest in music and especially the genre of R&B/Rap.

The institutions that might distribute my music magazine are large supermarket shops for example Tesco and Sainsbury’s and smaller newsagents and shops this is because they get a large range of people shopping in them and you find them everywhere in the UK. You would also be able to purchase my music magazine on the magazine website.

The audience for my Music magazine is Teenage boys and girls and young men and women. This is because magazine is for anyone who has an interest in R&B/Rap music however it’s not cheap so you would probably have to be in your late teens before you bought it.

I addressed the audience in my magazine in an interview form for my double page spread, this was an easy and interesting way of making my double page spread. The front cover is simple and the text I used was bold and bright this will catch the reader’s eye when they are looking at the magazines. The Image used on the front cover is the boy band who is staring on the double page spread.

Since I have started my music magazine I have learnt how to use Photoshop on the computers and that has been really interesting because I have been able to edit photos and change the colour of things, it was also nice finding out how magazine are made. I have also learnt a lot more terminology and I have learnt more about the media since staring my music magazine.

Magazine Analysis

Tallulah Sykes

The purpose of my magazine was for 6th formers at The Howard Of Effingham School. It was to tell them about what’s happening around the 6th form centre, it was also filled with news and gossip of the up and coming parties. My magazine would also include 15 practise theory tests papers.

The target audience was boys and girls aged sixteen to eighteen in the Howard 6th form. I tried to make my magazine front cover and contense page appeal to both boys and girls because Howard 6th form has boys and girls in it. The colours I use on the front cover were yellows and blues both these colours are bright, and appeal to both boys and girls.

My magazine title connotes that the magazine will be all about the Howard 6th form life as this is what the title suggests. This tells the readers that they will be finding out about what’s happening and what’s going on in the Howard 6th form. The central image I have used shows us an image of a typical student studying at the Howard 6th form. The student uses a direct mode of address smiling and looking into the eyes of the reader, this will also suggest to the reader the student is happy and enjoys The Howard 6th form. The clothes the central image is wearing are mainly blue so I have used blue for my title; the central image of the student also has a brown hat on and this blend into the brick wall in the background. On my magazine front cover I have used puffs at the side of the page, these give us a quick idea of what will be in the magazine and these should persuade the reader to pick up the magazine and buy it. I have used short snappy sentences on my front cover and this will give the readers a good idea of what will be inside the magazine. I think I should I have put the price at the top of the front cover and this would then be another eye-catching technique to persuade the readers at The Howard 6th form to buy the magazine. The photography used for my central image is a mid shot this is important because It looks to the reader as if the student (central image) is at the same eye level to the reader.

On my contents page I have used the same colour scheme to carry the colours through the whole magazine. For the background of my contents page I have used a brick wall and this is like the background of the front cover. I have also used the same blue colour to tell the readers what pages the articles are on. And I have used the same yellow for the title of the contents page. Carrying the same colours from the front cover to contents page will give a professional look to the magazine. It will also be easier for the readers to follow with the magazine.

If I were to change anything on my magazine contents page, I would maybe add some pictures to it of the school or pictures that are relevant to any of the articles I have put in my magazine. If I were to change anything on my magazine front cover I would maybe have added more information. I might have put some “buzz words” on the front aswell.
